1988, charcoal on paper, 22 x 30"
an important drawing for me.
we had a substitute teacher for drawing class,
and he said let's all go to the Museum of Natural History.
i saw piles of bones turned into rock, and i saw little anatomical details blooming inside of hips
i.e., bodies formed by the imperatives of the landscape
i.e., the bodies and the landscapes form each other
and that gave me the idea of undifferentiated places before forms happen
kind of a template space where certain arrays of shapes and pressures could become:
anything...a year, a tree, a wind, a bug on a horn
